Part of the reason there was a clean place at Quartz in the late 80's and early 90's is because every Sunday evening we went over and picked up garbage bags full of trash. True the climbers probably didn't contribute much to the heap but the locals used it as a beer party area. My son, Michael Ritchey, had assured Ted that we would keep it clean.
Take a look at the park camping area some Sunday after folks there pull out. The rangers will gladly furnish you with the bags to hike up Horizon trail and pick up trash.
The organizers of the Spring Fling and the Fall Gather have managed to make those events exceptions to the rule. Give them a thank you! The no camping rule at Quartz should stay in place.
