It's hardly ridiculous - it's really very reasonable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bourbon Street was the first line bolted at Baldy, bolted on lead, and has some historical value in that respect. It's a classic line at Baldy. What's wrong with rebuilding the ledge so that it can be climbed with the original start? We're not talking about filling in pin scars or regluing broken holds, we're talking about doing some dirt hauling so the first bolt can be gained in the original way without aid. According to your logic, nothing should ever be fixed or repaired - following that logic - leave all rusted bolts, or never drill in the first place, never repair trails to climbing areas, let erosion wash away the hillside.
Or what about this hypothetical situation. Let's say I'm a nutty dirtbag climber who gets pissed off and decides to take out my frustrations by hauling a shovel to the "grassy ledge" and digging out the entire ledge until it's completely removed. What would you suggest we do? Leave it that way because that's the way it is now even though no one can now climb there?
: This is ridiculous! You people are actually discussing lugging rocks, gravel, or a bunch of big stones, and wire and all that crap up to Bourbon Street Ledge ? Talk about changing Quartz... How about getting those geologists busy trying to put back the big chunk of granite that fell off and created Anorexia!!! Put a damn bolt between the 2 streets so people can traverse without a huge pendulum or relying on some stupid pink tricam. Then move on to more important business!
