The first time I did BS we did it in 2 pitches and stayed in the chimney also. It was a long time ago but I recall it being way hard and it chewed up my pants pretty good. After that we've always stepped out to the right of the chimney onto the face. It's a lot easier and if I remember correctly, for pro there's a tricam-friendly hole (pink or red?? I forget) about half way to the chains. If I ever get a hold of a 60m rope I'd like to do it all in one push instead of belaying at the base of the chimney.
: Whats the difference between the face out to the right and the chimney. Easier, harder, i know theres no pro out past the crack. Any beta would be appreciated. I seconded the Chimney section at the gathering and found it STRENUOUS. I thought I was going to fall, but didnt. I felt pretty comfy on the whole route except the chimney which has me questioning leading it. Can you get a couple pieces in the base of the chimney before traversing out onto the face?
