Arne:
The Board of the WMCC is working on a process to deal with this issue. Until then, I suggest that we not sensationalize the debate with terms like "fate".
The "fate" of Quartz has already been decided:
1) We saved Quartz from potential development, and made the area part of a state park with climbing guaranteed in perpetuity.
2) Most of us already agree that the style of climbing at Quartz should remain predominantly traditional and should preserve the adventurous character of the area as much as possible.
The issue is not whether the Quartz classics are to be retrobolted as modern, well-protected sport climbs. That has not been suggested and it is not a consideration. What is being discussed are the nuances in style and philosophy, and how to best manage the resource in order to preserve the value of Quartz for the longterm.
